The tournament was played out in round-robin style, every team facing every other team in best of 3 sets. After five hours of play the team representing Super Express won. Lets take a look and see how it ended up that way.
Match results…
The level of play was very even this year. As for detailed results from the matches: Classic Travel won 2 sets to 1 to Izabela Funeral Services after going down one set to start the game. Choice Insurance defeated Nowy Dziennik 2:0. Super Express won with Choice Insurance 2:1 with what was a very close battle, and Nowy Dziennik lost to Izabela Funeral Services 0:2.
During the next round Super Express defeated Classic Travel 2:0, with Choice Insurance defeating Nowy Dziennik by the same margin. With Super Express's continued dominance, it came as a surprise that they battled hard with Nowy Dziennik, though eventually came out victorious with the result of winning 2 sets to none.
Unexpected final match
It turns out that the final match ended up being between Izabela Funeral Services and Super Express, with the victor being crowned the winner of the tournament and Western Union trophy. The match was indeed a thriller, as both teams traded volleys throughout the game with no team dominating. The first set went to Izabela Funeral Service, second set to Super Express. The third set had both teams playing uneasy as everything was at stake. Super Express ended up triumphant, with a victory group hug as soon as the match point was in the books. We would like to congratulate Super Express for defending their title from last year and taking home the Western Union trophy once again.
The Territory Manager Northeast Region Western Union, Olga Sakiewicz, handed the Western Union trophy over to the captain of the Super Express team, Kazimierz Szosler.
Turns out that the results of all the matches had three teams taking a 2-2 record, meaning that these three spots were tied for second place: Classic Travel, Choice Insurance and Izabela Funeral Services. Given that the tournament had already lasted 5 hours up to this point, team captains agreed that no further matches were necessary and that each of these three teams took home the second place prizes.
The best male athlete of the tournament award went to Jarosław Żurek from team Classic Travel and the best female athlete award went to Magda Bednarz from team Izabela Funeral Services.
